New Hotel Planned for Rosemary District

A Boston developer plans to build a boutique hotel in the city's Rosemary District, joining a throng of new projects targeting the hospitality industry.

The 76-room hotel, called The Sarasota Modern, is planned on about one acre at the southwest corner of Boulevard of the Arts and Cocoanut Avenue, just east of U.S. 41.

Signs of Life for Sarasota Quay Development

The owner of the former Sarasota Quay property is taking initial steps toward development.

GreenPointe Communities, which paid $27 million for the 14-acre bayfront site last December, expects to submit a formal development plan to the city of Sarasota early 2016.

The Sunshine State welcomed an estimated 79.1 million visitors during the first nine months of 2015, the most of any such period in Florida's history.

The nine-month count was a 5.5 percent increase when compared with the same period in 2014.

Home buyers in Southwest Florida are still paying with cash at one of the fastest rates in the nation.

Several recent studies show the Sarasota-Bradenton metro area maintains a higher percentage of cash buyers than almost anywhere else in the U.S.
